Initiated in April 2021, The Changemakers series, is a novel effort brought to you by GITAM Deemed to be University that aims to bring dynamic insights from national and global leaders. This is an exclusive platform for GITAM students, faculty and staff to meet and interact with credible newsmakers


Each interactive session is presented by leading experts in the field of politics, administration, entertainment, media and social welfare. These engaging professional development opportunities, outside of the curriculum, provide an environment to learn from the leaders


The leadership lecture series provides practical, cutting-edge leadership insights and stories from top-level leaders for anyone who wants to enrich his or her ability to lead

Creating an inclusive platform to expose students to recognized leaders in multiple fields by bringing them together through the digital medium


We provide a forum for influential leaders and globally eminent members from the public and private sectors to address pertinent issues and interact with the GITAM community and the external audience. Our events are open to all GITAM students, faculty and staff at no cost


The June edition of Changemakers featured Taapsee Pannu, the new-age actress who has shaken the film industry with her work and her bold stand on issues of social relevance. The webinar explored her journey of “Undoing Labels and Sculpting Success”.


Dr Soumya Swaminathan was the featured speaker for the July edition. She shared her unique journey from a Paediatrician to a leading public health expert to WHO, Chief Scientist.

Meet the former diplomat and an eminent face in Indian politics, who has made the vital shift from diplomacy to democracy. The Changemaker for August, Hardeep Singh Puri, successfully transitioned to politics after retiring from the IFS, becoming a BJP Rajya Sabha MP and joining the union council of ministers under Prime Minister Modi.


Sharad Kumar, Para-athlete & Bronze Medalist

He is a champion, a hero, and an inspiration to millions. Against all odds, Sharad Kumar made India proud and bagged a bronze medal in the Men's High Jump at the Tokyo Paralympics. In his words, "It is a nice thing that has finally happened. It's been long due."


Swati Lakra, Additional DGP, Women’s Safety, Telangana

Meet the IPS officer championing the cause of women's safety, Addl DGP (Women's Safety) Swati Lakra, who has raised the safety bar for women in Hyderabad with her initiative, 'She' teams. Known for her people-centric initiatives and iron hand in dealing with offenders, Swati Lakra, an Indian Police Service Officer, made Hyderabad stand out in women safety through her initiative to curb eve-teasing in public places


Dr Ramachandra Guha
Prominent Historian & Author

In the November edition of Changemakers, hear from the prolific writer and biographer Ram Guha, who has always stood his ground on the country's critical issues. The many different achievements of author Ramachandra Guha as a Historian, environmentalist and political theorist are substantial, and he has emerged as an important figure in Indian academia.


Shashi Tharoor

Meet Shashi Tharoor, the changemaker for December, who has made a mark in politics and diplomacy. A three time Lok Sabha MP, prolific writer and one of India’s most articulate voices , Shashi Tharoor’s story is inspirational to us all. From completing his PHD at just 22 to an incredible career at the UN followed by a hugely successful turn into politics.


Khushbu Sundar
Noted Politician, Actor & Producer

We started 2022 in high spirits, with Khushbu Sundar as the Changemaker for January 2022. She has ruled the silver screen for two decades across the Bollywood, Kollywood and Tollywood film industries and has made her mark in politics. Growing up as a child artist and later owing her production house to having a temple built in her name, Khushbu Sundar has been a favourite of the masses and claimed her victory in every field.


T M Krishna
Carnatic Vocalist, Activist & Author

Meet the Changemaker for February 2022, the music maestro T M Krishna, live in GITAM Visakhapatnam campus. A Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, he has been passionate about his commitment to art and advocating art's power to heal India's deep-rooted social divisions. His songs "Chennai Poromboke Paadal '' and "Kodaikanal Still Won't" have been a massive hit among millennials, and he believes in lending his voice to several social issues. He has written several columns in The Hindu, The Indian Express, Outlook and India today, to name a few and his books have been applauded for the deftness of prose and received wide recognition.

Our Changemaker for April has had a diverse career and a note-worthy journey. He is known for being a journalist, civil activist, and more importantly, a truly inspirational Education Minister.
