Meet the former diplomat and an eminent face in Indian politics, who has made the vital shift from diplomacy to democracy. He has been at the diplomatic high table, serving as India's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, along with key diplomatic postings in Brazil, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka and Japan. Hardeep Singh Puri successfully transitioned to politics after retiring from the I.F.S., becoming a BJP Rajya Sabha MP and joining the union council of ministers under Prime Minister Modi.
Mr Puri made a mark first with the civil aviation portfolio, which he handled during the difficult phase of the Covid pandemic, along with housing and urban development, which has put him squarely in charge of the mega central vista project. In the recent cabinet reshuffle, Mr Puri was elevated to cabinet rank and now has charge of the petroleum ministry. A published author and one of the Modi government's most visible and articulate faces, we welcome Mr Hardeep Puri to GITAM's Changemakers series.
