India is struggling with a second wave of the pandemic with more than 4,00,000 daily new coronavirus cases being reported in the past few days. As COVID-19 continues to claim lives by the minute, do we have the capacity to protect those most at risk? Safe and effective vaccines will be a game-changer but do we have the strategies in place to ramp up production and address vaccine inequity?
Can patent waivers help end vaccine inequity? Do we have the solutions at hand to produce them in the shortest possible time, for India alone, with a need of at least 2 billion vaccines to be produced in the shortest possible time? As India faces its biggest challenge with the pandemic, we talk to Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, one of India’s leading entrepreneurs and an inspiration for millions, about what strategies can India adopt and how we can ramp up vaccinations.
