About the event

Our Changemaker for December is one of India’s most articulate lawmakers. He shines in multiple roles- as an MP from Thiruvananthapuram and an accomplished author and writer. Meet Shashi Tharoor. He has represented India at the United Nations, was Minister of State for External Affairs and is a three-time MP.

Tharoor rose through the ranks with a remarkable UN career, starting as an entry-level junior officer to being the potential secretary-general—all in 30 years. He credits a lot of his academic achievement to the constant pressure his parents piled on him but would not coerce his sons to go through this as he never enjoyed a normal childhood, as quoted in an interview.

Later, he crossed into politics, joined the Indian National Congress, and continues to represent the people of India. He has authored over 35 books and won the Sahitya Akademy award for his non-fiction book An Era of Darkness in 2019. His witty, satirical take on Indian history, politics, films, geopolitics make him a favourite among youngsters and voracious readers.
